In a study published in BMC Public Health this year, researchers showed that older adults with a canine friend spend more time walking than those who don't own a dog. The participants wore activity monitors for three 1-week periods over a year. On average, dog owners walked for 22 minutes more per day and took 2,760 additional steps per day than non-dog owners.
